Administrative MessageNovember 21, 2006 To: UCSC Community From: Acting Chancellor Blumenthal Re: UCSC student dies in GhanaWe have received word from the University of California's Education Abroad Program office in Santa Barbara that four UC students were hospitalized after a vehicular accident yesterday in Accra, the capital city of Ghana. I am very sad to report that one of the students, Brenna Fessenden, a senior from UC Santa Cruz, died from injuries sustained in the accident. At the time of the accident, the four students were returning to Accra in a minibus after visiting a national park in the nearby city of Kumasi. Affiliated with Porter College, Brenna was studying psychology -- and was an eager and accomplished student who wanted to see as much of the world as possible. We don't have additional information at this time about the accident or about a memorial service for Brenna, but we will make other information available from Currents Online as it becomes known. Please join me in expressing our deepest condolences to Brenna's parents and other family members; and to her many friends. Please see a November 22 article and a November 30 article in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.
