Re: Auto accident claims life of student

It is with sadness that I write to inform you that we've received news that one of our students has died in an automobile accident. Saturday afternoon, UCSC student Rebecca Siebenmorgen was struck by an oncoming car as she traveled on a motorcycle north on Highway 1 in San Mateo County. She died of injuries sustained during the accident.

A celebration of Rebecca's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, at the new Veterans Memorial Building, 3780 Mt. Diablo Blvd., in Lafayette, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions in Rebecca's name be sent to the Animal Rescue Foundation, 2890 Mitchell Drive, Walnut Creek, CA 94598, attention: Animal Care Fund. For more information about the foundation, please call (925) 256-1273.
Rebecca, 19, was a Stevenson College student still in the early years of college. She had just begun her second year here with an undeclared major, having come to UCSC from her hometown of Lafayette.

California Highway Patrol officers report that the driver of the southbound vehicle was arrested soon after the accident on suspicion of manslaughter and felony hit-and-run and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

As of this morning, Rebecca's family was still making plans for a memorial. As details are known, we will add them to Currents Online.

Please join me in expressing our very deepest sympathy to Rebecca's family and to her many friends.
