Administrative Message

June 30, 2006

To: Staff and Faculty

From: David S. Kliger, Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor

Re: Message from David S. Kliger: commitment to community

Dear Colleagues:

Yesterday our campus demonstrated the true meaning of a commitment to community.

Students, staff and faculty contributed in many ways, resulting in a meaningful memorial to Chancellor Denton. They did so with a positive spirit and collective will, even as they were coping with their own shock and grief. I want to express my gratitude to all of you.

For those of you who could not attend the memorial, a webcast and audio stream of the program is available at a special web site created to honor Chancellor Denton.

When we return to campus following the July 4th break, I ask you to join with me to maintain that same spirit of community as the campus moves forward. We are concluding an academic year that has presented us many challenges, yet we should remember that we have also accomplished a great deal.

I look forward to continuing to serve the campus in my role as the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor and to welcoming an Acting Chancellor in the near future. Be assured that President Dynes is consulting with the campus leadership as he considers this critical appointment. I do not know the timing of a decision, but I will keep you informed as I learn more.

For now I wish you all a good rest this weekend. I encourage you to find ways to refresh your mind and your heart.

Sincerely,

David S. Kliger
Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor
