Administrative MessageJune 12, 2006 To: UC Santa Cruz Community From: Chancellor Denice D. Denton Re: Student dies after climbing accidentIt is with much sadness that I write to inform you that we have learned that one of our students died this past Thursday from injuries sustained during a climbing accident. Nicholas Ermak, 22, had been injured earlier in the week at Mount Diablo State Park. Affiliated with Porter College, Nicholas was a senior majoring in history. He came to UCSC from the city of Danville and planned to graduate next winter quarter. The family has planned a memorial service and reception for Nicholas this Wednesday, June 14, at the Wilson & Kratzer Chapel of San Ramon Valley in Danville. An informal gathering begins at 3 p.m., with a service scheduled for 4 p.m. A reception will follow. The chapel is located at 825 Hartz Way in Danville. Please join me in extending heartfelt condolences to Nicholas's family and to his many friends, both on and off campus.
