Re: Student dies in automobile accident

It is with great sadness that I write to inform you that one of our students died this past Friday in an automobile accident. The accident also injured two other UCSC students, both of whom are still hospitalized.

Adrianna "Audrey" Castellanos, 19, a first-year Porter College student, died from injuries sustained in the evening accident, which occurred in the Fresno area. Traveling in the same vehicle with Adrianna to Southern California were two other first-year students, Devin Cohee and Jacqueline Balin, both from College Ten. Adrianna herself had been recently affiliated with College Ten; earlier this quarter, she had moved to a residence hall at Porter College.

Her friends at both colleges describe Adrianna as very caring and likeable--the kind of person who found time to perform service in the "Alternate Spring Break" program in Mexico this year and was involved in the community volunteer program at Colleges Nine and Ten. She had not yet declared a major.

Details about a memorial service for Adrianna or other public recognitions will be posted in Currents Online as soon as they are known.

Student Affairs staff are active in both Porter and College Ten, and staff from Counseling & Psychological Services are available to meet with students, staff, or faculty.

I know you will join me in extending heartfelt condolences to Adrianna's family and to her many friends--and also in wishing Devin and Jacqueline the very best in their recovery.
