Re: Death of a staff member

I am very sad to report that we have learned that one of our staff members died in an accident on Highway 17 last week.

UPDATE--CAMPUS MEMORIAL: Staff members from Colleges and University Housing Services have planned an informal memorial for Kevin for those who wish to participate in a shared remembrance of him. It will take place at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, at the University Center.

Kevin Wischnesky, a kitchen mechanic for student dining facilities, had come to UCSC from the Sacramento area in April 2005. In his year on campus, Kevin had established himself as a very capable and responsive mechanic, working behind the scenes to keep the kitchen equipment running.

Just last week, he saved the day for the kitchen staff through a quick emergency repair of the dishwashing machine at Stevenson College during the annual Staff Breakfast.

A celebration of Kevin's life has been scheduled for this Saturday, May 20, at 2 p.m. in Sacramento at 2231 Garden Highway (on the Sacramento River). For additional details, please contact his supervisor, Robin McDuff, at ramcduff@ucsc.edu.

Please join me in extending heartfelt condolences to Kevin's parents in Arizona and brother in Hawaii, to his colleagues at UCSC, and to his many friends in the Santa Cruz and Sacramento areas.
