Re: Sad news: message from Chancellor Denton

With great sadness, I write to report that we have just learned about the death of one of our staff members.

Mary Melville, a Financial Assistant III in Financial Administrative Services and Transactions (FAST) was killed in an automobile accident over this last weekend. In addition to Mary, her husband, Michael, and their one-year-old daughter died in the accident. Their eight-year-old daughter remains hospitalized in serious condition at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

Mary joined UCSC in March 1996, working in the Social Sciences Division Service Center prior to the business services consolidation.

No details are known yet about a memorial service or other public recognition.

Please join me in extending heartfelt condolences to Mary's family and many friends and colleagues, who are deeply affected by this tragedy.
