Re: Invitation to the Tenth Anniversary Sidhartha Maitra Memorial Lecture

The UC Santa Cruz Satyajit Ray Film & Study Collection invites you to attend the Tenth Anniversary Sidhartha Maitra Memorial Lecture.

Pico Iyer, renowned author and journalist, will discuss "Islam and California: A Cultural Romance."

Sunday, October 12, 4 p.m. at the Music Recital Hall.

Admission is free.

Pico Iyer, a longtime essayist and renowned author, is known for his eloquent observations of cultural nuances between eastern and western society. His articles have appeared in Harper's, the New York Review of Books, the New York Times, Sports Illustrated, and Conde Nast Traveler. His books include Video Night in Kathmandu, The Lady and the Monk, Falling Off the Map, The Global Soul, Tropical Classical, and Abandon.

The classic Satyajit Ray film Devi will be shown at 6:30 p.m. that same evening at the Recital Hall. Actress Sharmila Tagore, star of the film, will appear in person after the screening to answer questions. Indian box dinners will be available for purchase between the lecture and the film.
