May 28, 2004 To: Campus Community From: Transportation and Parking Services Re: 2004-05 Parking AnnouncementAs part of an overall campus effort to minimize cost increases to employees during these difficult budget times, TAPS is proposing no parking fee increase for 2004-05; rates will remain at the 2003-04 levels with no decrease in services. While freezing parking rates will have an impact on parking reserves for future constructions projects, the Chancellor has decided that this is the right course of action for next fiscal year. In addition to no parking rate increases, TAPS is proposing enhanced parking permit options to begin July 1, 2004. These include: * A Remote Lot (“R”) Carpool Permit: This permit may be purchased for $432/year by faculty, staff, and/or students who live off campus, who regularly carpool together, and who park in a Remote Lot. * Free motorcycle permits for the East and West Remote Lots and the Granary Lot. * Four-day Limited “A” and “B” Permits: $159/quarter, except for Fall Quarter, when the cost will be $212. This permit is intended for staff, faculty, and graduate students who have a regular work schedule of four days/week. * Currently, staff and faculty may buy three packets of 50 Daily “A” permits at increasingly higher rates for each packet. Graduate students may purchase one packet of Daily “B” permits per year. Effective July 1, these limits will be removed and staff, faculty, and graduate students may buy additional packets at $225.00 per packet. Detailed descriptions and information about these proposed permits can be found at http://www2.ucsc.edu/taps/pages/newpermitoptions.html. For represented employees, this proposal may be subject to negotiation. Any comments or questions about the proposed new permits should be directed to TAPS Assistant Director Jule Tanner at jatanner@ucsc.edu or extension 9-2972 by June 24, 2004.
