Re: Invitation from Strategic Futures Committee
On behalf of the Strategic Futures Committee, I am writing to invite your review and feedback for the current draft of the Strategic Futures Committee (SFC) report. You will find it posted at http://planning.ucsc.edu/sfc/docs/sfc-interim.pdf.
In the report, the Committee presents rationale for the future development of campus academic programs, placing emphasis on the campus' pursuit of excellence, not on an assumption of growth. In that light, the report outlines the principles and the background data that have informed an initial recommendation to the Long Range Development Plan (LRDP) Committee (http://planning.ucsc.edu/lrdp) that the campus examine the physical, resource, and land use implications of reaching a three-quarter-average on-campus enrollment of up to 21,000 FTE by 2020. When the report is finalized, the LRDP Committee will use it as a springboard for analysis leading to a Long Range Development Plan that will guide the campus over the next 15 years.
I have already solicited feedback from Senate committee members, senior administrators, and the LRDP Committee (http://planning.ucsc.edu/sfc/docs/05-18.strategic-futures.htm), and the final document will be influenced by their comments. It is important that the final report also benefits from the input of the wider campus community. By June 15, please provide your comments via e-mail (sfc@ucsc.edu).
