Administrative Messages

Re: Spring Message from Admissions

As you know, spring is a crucial time of year for university-bound high school seniors and college transfer students and their families, since this is the time when they will be deciding where to enroll for fall. To make their decision, these students and their families find it helpful to tour the campuses where the students have been admitted.

In order to help these students and their families, we have built an online tour reservation system at http://www.admissions.ucsc.edu/campustours. If admitted or prospective students happen to call you looking for tour information, please direct them to that site.

Last year, demand for tours at our campus was greater than ever. During our Experience UC Santa Cruz expanded tour program in April 2003, 5,435 students and family members toured the campus. This year’s Experience UC Santa Cruz event promises to be just as busy, with 14 tours a day offered by Admissions on weekdays from April 5 through April 21, as well as associated open houses, events, and tours offered by departments, divisions, and colleges.

As in the past, the campus will feel some impact from the increased number of visitors this spring. There will be some additional motor traffic caused by tour buses, plus additional foot traffic around campus.

Our visitors will be curious about university life and may ask you many questions. Please be patient. Your helpfulness will be a measure of our university community to these students and their families. In addition, if you see individuals or groups of people on campus who look like they are lost, please help them find their way if you can.

Thank you in advance for your patience and support during this important season for the future of UC Santa Cruz.
