Re: Martin M. Chemers named acting chancellor of UC Santa Cruz
Dear Colleagues:
It is my personal pleasure to announce the appointment of Martin M. Chemers as Acting Chancellor, effective April 1.

As I am certain the campus' experience in the coming months will confirm, this is an inspired and very wise decision. Marty brings exceptional proven leadership skills and an abiding commitment to UC Santa Cruz. With his guidance as dean of Social Sciences, the division has expanded academic programs, received national and international recognition in several disciplines, hired outstanding faculty and staff, and accomplished significant fundraising goals. As Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, Marty has demonstrated remarkable ability to bring people together, to grasp quickly the scope and nuance of issues, and to advance campus initiatives with the kind of innovative thinking that distinguishes him.
Please join me in congratulating Martin M. Chemers for this honor--and, as I will do myself, please give him the support and assistance that I know he will appreciate, as he accepts this new responsibility.
