January 20, 2004 To: Campus Community From: Frank Zwart, Campus Architect and Associate Vice Chancellor, Physical Planning and Construction Re: Organizational changes within the office of Physical Planning and ConstructionCharlie Eadie, director of Campus and Community Planning, has accepted a position with the City of Watsonville Redevelopment Agency and will be leaving the University on February 1. Christine Aldecoa, senior planner, who has lead our Environmental Assessment Group, will be retiring the University effective April 1. Christine will be on vacation and out of the office during the months of February and March. We are developing an organizational structure that will support physical and environmental planning for campus in the short term and will also provide long term continuity for future planning activities. In the near term, John Barnes, principal planner, will continue to oversee a broad range of planning activities related to on-going project support and campus design. He will also continue to contribute to the current long range planning effort for the campus. John will also oversee development of California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) documents, including active Environmental Impact Reports, for all major capital projects. Dean Fitch, senior planner, will continue as lead planner for the Long Range Development Plan 2005-2020. He will also continue with project support and with several other planning projects currently underway. In addition, Dean will oversee CEQA documents for small projects, mitigation monitoring, and other environmental planning activities. John and Dean will be assisted by other campus personnel that have been involved with campus planning activities including Silicon Valley Center, Long Marine Lab planning, and the like. John and Dean can be reached at 460-3570. I would like to thank Charlie and Chris for their dedication and accomplishments; their talents, experience, and knowledge of the campus will be greatly missed. Please join me in wishing them the very best in their future endeavors.
